Maureen Pirog named fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration

Wednesday, October 17, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Maureen Pirog, Rudy Professor Emeritus of Policy Analysis at the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs, has been selected as a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.

Pirog is one of 40 leading scholars who will be recognized at the Academy’s annual fall meeting, which will take place in November in Washington, D.C. Selection of the Academy fellows follows a rigorous review of the individual’s contributions to the field of public administration and policy. Pirog was nominated by SPEA professor Robert Kravchuk for her years of public administration expertise. The nomination was seconded by David Rosenbloom of American University and Angela Evans of the University of Texas-Austin. Pirog and Kravchuk are among the 13 NAPA fellows on SPEA’s faculty.

Pirog specializes in social policy and is a national expert on child support. She has authored more than 100 publications including six books and numerous articles in leading public affairs and political science journals. Her research on social welfare policies, poverty, and labor markets has led to several collaborations with the U.S. General Accounting Office, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and leading private foundations and research institutions. Her research on fairness and equity in the determination of child support awards is regularly used by state and U.S. Congressional committees.

"I am pleased to welcome Maureen Pirog to the 2018 class of fellows," said Academy President and CEO Terry Gerton. "Our fellows are nationally recognized for their contributions to the field of public administration and Maureen is no exception. The 2018 class is an outstanding group, representing the best in public administration professionals, and will enrich our fellowship, especially as we launch an effort to identify and address grand challenges in public administration."

Pirog and the 2018 class joins nearly 900 Academy Fellows -- including former cabinet officers, members of Congress, governors, mayors and state legislators, as well as prominent scholars, business executives, nonprofit leaders and public administrators.

Chartered by Congress to provide non-partisan expert advice, the National Academy of Public Administration is an independent, nonprofit, and nonpartisan organization established in 1967 to assist government leaders in building more effective, efficient, accountable and transparent organizations.
